Why Thermographic Imaging?
When used correctly, this non-invasive technology can easily detect very specific temperature changes within your horse. Just as important, it allows viewers to look for asymmetry within the horse's body. Within 30 minutes, we are provided specific and whole-body images that allow owners and veterinary professionals to truly visualize and break down the temperature changes being observed. No sedation needed, no trailering, less stress, less time spent, and more answers. Why guess when you can know!
We've all been there- our horse is off, we've spent hundreds to thousands at the vet in diagnostics, and we still don't have an answer. Although all types of diagnostic equipment is useful, it's expensive and inconvenient to use when we don't even know the general location of the problem. If thermography is used first, owners can see potential areas of concern and present the information to their vet, therefore decreasing lots of time and money spent in other diagnostics to find the source of the problem. Then, we can use this technology to re-capture images later and compare them to the initial images taken to evaluate progression.

Benefits
The use of thermal imaging offers numerous benefits for horse owners and trainers. It provides a quick, non-invasive method to detect potential inflammation, pain, or injury by visualizing temperature variations in the horse's body. This early detection can lead to timely and effective support, therefore allowing professionals to improve the overall health and performance of your horse.
Reasons For Use
-
Early Visual Detection and Prevention
-
Can detect subtle changes in temperature that may indicate problems before they become clinically apparent or cause lameness.
-
Can identify potential inflammation, circulation issues, and subtle injuries before visible signs like swelling appear.
-
Helps catch potential issues up to several weeks in advance, enabling early intervention and potentially preventing more serious injuries.
-
-
Localize Potential Injuries and Ailments
-
Helps locate the source of various potential strains, sprains, and injuries, including tendon and ligament damage.
-
Can assist veterinarians in diagnosing laminitis, navicular syndrome, hoof abscesses, arthritis, and other foot problems.
-
Can identify potential back pain, saddle soreness, and problems relating to the vertebral column, including overriding spinous processes (kissing spine)- veterinary diagnosis only.
-
Helps pinpoint areas of potential muscle injury or atrophy that might be difficult to visualize otherwise.
-
Helps identify potential nerve damage or circulatory problems that can lead to abnormally cold areas.
-
-
Monitor Current Rehab Progress
-
Provides objective monitoring of therapeutic or rehabilitation plans by visualizing the progress of the case.
-
Tracks the effectiveness of treatments, such as physiotherapy or medication.
-
Helps determine if the healing process is complete before returning a horse to work, minimizing the risk of re-injury.
-
Evaluates the effectiveness of anti-inflammatory medications by monitoring temperature changes.
-
-
Optimize Performance
-
Monitors performance horses during training to ensure optimal physical adaptation and prevent overtraining or injury.
-
Offers visualization of hoof balance and can identify potential imbalances and issues in how the hoof contacts the ground and carries weight.
-
-
Saddle Fitting
-
Assists in saddle fitting by identifying pressure points and areas of uneven pressure distribution that can cause back pain or soreness.
-
-
Non-invasive and animal-friendly approach
-
Equine thermography is a non-invasive and non-contact technique, which is less stressful for the horse compared to some traditional diagnostic methods.
-
Does not involve any penetrating radiation, making it safe for the horse, handler, and operator.
-
-
Purchases and Sales
-
Can aid in the detection of joint injections through visual images.
-
Can aid in the detection of potential injuries and inflammation prior to the horse showing clinical symptoms.

Thermography is not used as a diagnostic tool within StrideRight Wellness, LLC. We do not have the ability to diagnose specific abnormalities, deformities, injuries, or diseases with the images generated by the thermal imaging devices. By using the complementary report, we advocate for the use of veterinary professionals for diagnostic purposes and clinical opinions.
