Red Light Therapy

Dig deep with red light support.

Common Uses For Near Infrared Light:

- To support and maintain chronic conditions such as arthritis, laminitis, and navicular

- To increase recovery time of suspensory and tendon injuries and strains

- To increase recovery time of tendons and ligaments from strenuous activity

Common Uses for Red Light:

- To increase healing time of superficial conditions such as wounds, bruising, and skin/coat conditions

- To increase healing time of surgical incision sites

Session Length

~ 20 minutes

WHY RED Light?
Studies have shown that both near infrared light and red light can support chronic conditions and decrease the overall recovery time from various injuries.  SRW's red light equipment offers both red light and near infrared light simultaneously. Both are different types of medical grade wavelengths designed to penetrate different levels of tissues. Red light offers 660mm designed to penetrate into superficial tissues, while its near infrared light offers 850mm designed to penetrate into deep muscle, ligaments, tendons, and joints.  SRW's equipment comes in multiple forms to ensure your equine can be supported appropriately: bell boots, two medium sized pads , and a hand-held wand.
Red light support creates a process known as photobiomodulation, which involves the use of specific wavelengths of light to adjust (modulate) cellular processes like energy production, inflammation, and repair. Each cell in the body contains adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is a molecule that provides energy for many cellular activities and processes. It’s known as the “energy currency” of the cell. One key thing to note is that ATP isn’t just used during physical exercise. ATP provides energy for cellular processes, which are activities that occur within cells to maintain life and support overall health. One such cellular process is cellular repair -  the process by which cells divide, replicate, and repair themselves - which supports tissue health and recovery. Another example of a cellular process is the transmission of electrical and chemical signals within and between cells, which is crucial for brain function, Mental/cognitive activities, emotional regulation, and even muscle contractions. All of these cellular processes require the utilization of ATP.
The red/NIR light essentially helps the mitochondria work more effectively by increasing the efficiency of aerobic respiration (the process of converting ATP into energy). The more quickly the mitochondria can work, the more energy they can make. This is why red/NIR light therapy is so beneficial. It causes more efficient ATP production, which facilitates cellular processes essential for healing and promoting positive health.

How Does Infrared LED Light Therapy Work?
Wearable LED Therapy to Prevent - Maintain And Treat Injuries

Benefits

Equine red light therapy offers several benefits for horses, primarily focusing on pain relief, reduced inflammation, and accelerated healing. It utilizes specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to penetrate tissues, promoting cellular energy production and stimulating various healing processes.

Reasons For Use

  • Pain Relief

    • Red light therapy can help manage chronic pain conditions like arthritis and pain associated with injuries. It's believed to reduce pain perception and improve overall comfort.

  • Reduced Inflammation

    • By targeting the cellular level, red light therapy can help decrease inflammation in affected areas, which is crucial for managing conditions like osteoarthritis.

  • Wound Healing

    • The therapy can accelerate the healing process of wounds and injuries by promoting cell growth and tissue repair.

  • Improved Circulation

    • Red light therapy can enhance blood circulation, which is vital for delivering nutrients and oxygen to damaged tissues, further supporting the healing process.

  • Non-Invasive and Relaxing

    • It's a non-invasive treatment with minimal to no side effects, and many horses find it relaxing.

  • Complementary Therapy

    • Red light therapy can be used alongside other treatments, potentially reducing the need for medication in some cases.

  • Versatile Applications

    • It can be applied to various areas of the horse's body, including limbs, back, and joints, depending on the specific needs.

  • How it works

    • Red light therapy works by stimulating mitochondria, the powerhouses of cells, with specific wavelengths of light. This leads to increased energy production within the cells, allowing them to function more efficiently and promote healing and repair.
